Frequently Asked Questions

What is Ombre Shading?

Ombre Shading is a type of permanent cosmetic procedure that involves using a rotary tattoo pen to implant ink into the skin to give the appearance of more crisp, defined, and shaped eyebrows.

Am I suitable for this procedure?

Most people are! However, some may not be suitable for permanent cosmetic procedures based on certain health conditions. Please view the following link to review the Terms & Conditions for more information:

I don’t want my eyebrows to come out too dark. Do they have to be dark?

It’s most recommended that the artist does your eyebrows darker than what you would like them to initially be. This is because the eyebrows will lighten 30%-50% or more once the healing process is complete. Read more about the healing process below.

What is the healing process like?

Once the procedure is completed, the eyebrows go through the “Heal & Peel” phase. The amount of time varies per person, however the usual time is roughly 2-10 days or more. During the healing process, the eyebrows will appear much darker and begin to from a crust. They will then crack and start to peel. Allow them to naturally peel on their own. Do not prematurely pull the crust that forms, otherwise the ink may pull up with it. Once the eyebrows have finished peeling, they will appear fairly light. They will slightly darken over the next few weeks. A touchup appointment may be needed/wanted 4-6 weeks after the initial procedure. At this time, the eyebrows can be made darker or filled in at areas that did not retain color.

How long is the appointment?

Appointments are roughly 2.5 hours. However, each client is booked for a 3 hour time slot.

Does it hurt?

Each client has a different pain tolerance. However, on a scale of 1-10 (1 being the least amount of pain, and 10 being the highest), most clients rate the entire procedure from a 2-4. Once the outline is drawn with the tattoo pen, and a quick pass is done over the eyebrow, a very fast acting & strong numbing gel is applied. The outline and quick pass takes roughly a few minutes per eyebrow.

What happens during the appointment?

At the beginning of the appointment, the client will fill out and sign a medical history form and consent form. “Before” pictures will be taken and a brow design will be discussed between client and artist. A “Predraw” with the proposed eyebrow design will be done with makeup beforehand. After the client confirms the design, the procedure will begin. Once the procedure is completed, “After” pictures/videos are taken. An aftercare sheet will be provided and explained.

I have had my eyebrows done in the past. Can I still get this procedure?

There are some cases where previous permanent makeup is small in shape and very faded. In those cases, a “Cover Up” procedure may be done. Cover Ups involve redesigning, reshaping, and recoloring previous permanent makeup. However, not all work can be covered. Some previous work may be too close together, or too uneven, dark, or large. Pictures must be sent for approval PRIOR to booking. Multiple sessions may be recommended for full coverage.

How long will my eyebrows last?

Ombre Shading can last 1-3 years. How long eyebrows last ultimately depend on skin type, aftercare, and lifestyle. Touch Ups are highly recommended to keep eyebrows looking fresh and new.
